The Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food supports a number of interdisciplinary research projects at Oxford University and works with a number of different research groups in order to promote and improve our understanding of the food system.

Livestock, Environment and People (LEAP) Programme

LEAP investigated the health, environmental, social, and economic effects of meat and dairy production and consumption. The project finished in April 2024.

TABLE works with food system stakeholders to explore the future of food. The team focuses on the ways in which scientific evidence and social values inform often conflicting visions and arguments for necessary change.

The Food Systems Transformation group explores food system activities from consumption to production, and the relationships the food system has with food security, the environment and enterprise.

Crossmodal Research Laboratory

Led by Professor Charles Spence, the Crossmodal Research Lab studies the integration of information across different sensory modalities.

Unit for Biocultural Variation and Obesity

UBVO is an interdisciplinary research unit dedicated to understanding the complex and interwoven causes of obesity in populations around the world, using multidisciplinary methods.

Health Behaviours team

The Health Behaviours Team work on improving public health through both population-level and individual-level interventions. Researchers are focused on improving the healthiness and sustainability of diets.

HESTIA

To reduce the environmental impacts of agriculture, we need to understand the environmental impacts of farms and food products. HESTIA provides an open-access platform that stores standardised data on agricultural production.

The Oxford Networks for the Environment mobilise the University's expertise in science, technology, and society, to find solutions to the challenges of energy, water, and food security, climate change and threats to biodiversity.
