Pete leads the Sustainable and Healthy Food Group in the Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. His research focuses on evaluating population approaches to increase the uptake of healthy and sustainable diets. This includes influences on food choice, including food cost, labelling, marketing and accessibility. He has studied the impact of food labelling, marketing and pricing on the behaviour of both consumers and the food industry. His work includes both empirical measurement of the impact of interventions and policies (e.g. measuring the impact of the Soft Drink Industry Levy on sugar levels in drinks), and modelling the long-term impact of food system scenarios on health and the environment (e.g. reducing consumption of animal-based foods).
Pete currently leads the THRIVING Food Futures project, funded by UKRI and NIHR.
